Friends - Atlanta, Georgia
01 April, 2014
In the summer of 2004 Friends on Ponce, a neighborhood bar, entered the competitive Atlanta nightlife scene. The goal was to provide a diverse clientele with a safe and fun space to meet, mix and mingle.
While the early years presented many challenges, Friends overcame obstacles, and not only survived in a changing market but thrived as a place where all are welcome. While there are many things of which to be proud, the foremost is the diversity of their customers and the welcoming and friendly atmosphere the bar offers them.
The addition of a beautiful garden patio overlooking historic Ponce de Leon Avenue can provide both a quiet space to chat and a delightful space for parties. Adding vintage reclaimed barn wood to the outside of the building gives a sense of warmth and character, while inside a wealth of advertising memorabilia, art, photos, and artifacts from the owner’s eclectic collection imparts a homey, comfortable feeling.
With a variety of games such as darts, pool, and pinball, the bar is also a venue for Atlanta Poker Club Texas Hold’em games as well as Atlanta Pool League tournaments. The Georgia Lottery has installed Keno games which customers can enjoy while listening to music from the state of the art internet jukebox.
Key players in Friends’ success are the friendly and outgoing bartending staff as well as experienced managers with years invested in the nightlife industry. In fact, the monthly New Faces Talent Contest is hosted by one of our managers, Regina “Boom Boom” Simms, who is herself one of Atlanta’s most popular and beloved entertainers. Additionally, Regina spearheads the annual Holiday Benefit fundraiser for the Atlanta Community Food Bank and Toys for Tots which has raised thousands of dollars over the course of ten years.
Now Friends celebrates its milestone Ten-Year Anniversary in 2014!
