Hula's Bar & Lei Stand - Honolulu, Hawaii

03 July, 2014

Hula's Bar & Lei Stand (Hula's) is a storied and celebrated Gay Bar, legendary within the world's gay community and beyond, and is also the epitome of 'Aloha' for all who are lucky enough to be seduced by its warmth and charm.

Opened on July 9th 1974,we are honored to celebrate Hula's 40th anniversary with this special Hula's Bar & Lei Stand 40th anniversary t-shirt

'Tree'Hula's was packed day and night from its opening in 1974 until 1998. Called 'Tree' Hula's because it was located under a huge and unforgettable Banyan tree that was filled with thousands of tiny white lights. The sounds of laughter and good music filled the area, drawing in thousands of passing tourists over the years. Many of them straight, they ended up staying the whole evening and dancing the night away.

In 1998 Hula's moved to its current location and what we affectionately call 'View' Hula's. Oh Boy is it a view! It's an open air bar on the second floor of the Waikiki Grand Hotel, with breathtaking views of Kapiolani Park, Diamond Head Crater (Le'ahi), the Pacific Ocean, and the beautiful surfers heading to the beach and back with their boards. Hula's is a place where it's easy to meet a new best friend, and maybe more, among the interesting locals and travelers who use Hula's as 'home base' on O'ahu!

The time of day determines what Hula's is. In the morning, starting at 10am Hula's serves 'eye openers' with Bloody Marys, mimosas, coffees, and a full bar, it is Waikiki after all. Additionally, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, enjoy a great brunch with a great view.

In the afternoon until the spectacular sunset, Hula's is the refreshing 'after the beach' bar, with amazing views, cold drinks and friendly staff. During this time Hula's specializes in serving mai tais, mojitos, ice cold draft beers, and whatever else a sun drenched body may crave and desire. This is also the time that the Hula's Café is serving great appetizers and lite bites daily from 3:30-9:30pm.

After sunset until 2am, not only the visitors to O'ahu, but also the locals come to party and dance. Hula's is a rockin' video and dance bar, always featuring the newest videos and music, hosting some of the edgiest performers from Hawaii and around the world. And, as always at Hula's, the full bar and amazing staff keep the libations flowing.

On your next visit to Hawaii, make sure to visit one of the most famous Gay Bars in the whole world, and one of our personal favorites, Hula's Bar & Lei Stand (Hula's)
